Empowering Possibility. Honoring every path.

Since 1973, Pathwise has delivered compassionate, licensed support that helps individuals with disabilities thrive in their communities.

Formerly known as Laurens County Disability and Special Needs Board

our journey

Established in 1973 by Legislative Act #700, Pathwise is a public, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as those with head or spinal cord injuries. For more than five decades, we have remained committed to empowering people with disabilities to achieve their fullest potential through opportunities that promote independence, dignity, and inclusion.

Our programs and services are delivered in the least restrictive environment possible, ensuring each individual is supported with respect, compassion, and care. All Pathwise programs are licensed by the South Carolina Office of Intellectual and Development Disabilities and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, reflecting our ongoing commitment to quality, safety, and accountability.

You may remember us by a previous name, but we are proud to move forward as Pathwise—a name that better reflects who we are and how we serve. Pathwise represents guidance, empowerment, and trust. It speaks to our role as a compassionate partner, walking alongside individuals and families as they navigate their unique journeys. While our name has changed, our mission and commitment have not. We remain the same dedicated team, focused on stability, growth, and building a stronger, more inclusive community.

At Pathwise, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to live a meaningful, connected life—and we are honored to walk that path together.
